When the Ka+ Active was launched in 2018, Ford made a strong entry into the mini SUV market. With a modest 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine, the Ka+ Active offered 85 horsepower and proved well-equipped for urban driving conditions. Its strengths, such as its raised chassis and robust body panels, gave it a rugged aesthetic and reasonable ground clearance.

While Fiat installed its 1.4-liter gasoline unit, Ford kept the 1.2-liter version and took the Italian company's 1.3-liter turbodiesel engine. The Ka was offered exclusively with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
