As of this story, there is only one other 1970 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 with the same livery and white bucket seats that shares the same powertrain architecture (and it was sold four years ago for a neat 143,000 bucks).

In fact, many parts of the GT were adapted for use in the Cobra, such as the suspension, several components of the frame, and the mounting brackets for the transmission (which is placed in the rear on the Cobra). Despite sharing large portions of its chassis with the Ford GT, the Shelby Cobra concept is almost 2 feet (0.61 m) shorter overall and has a wheelbase 7 inches (180 mm) shorter than the GT.

SVT *did* refer to it as the SVT Cobra, but only out of homage to Coletti. They had a difficult time dealing with the fact that Carroll didn't have much to do with it, but more was a "branding". I got a rack of crap from guys at shows when I first got it because they insisted it wasn't a "real" Shelby. This, from guys that were standing around polishing their 1970 GT500s (which also wouldn't be "real" Shelby's if we used their definition because they never went to CA to be modded at Shelby.
